FARMERS' MARKET TOUR FOR TWO– Saturday morning tour, 7am to noon. Arrive Friday night, sample market produce by the fire in the garden or by the fireplace in the kitchen at King Bethune House, and go to the Peterborough Farmers’ Market. Explore the waterfront, take a water taxi ride in season (24 May to end of August), or wander through the vibrant downtown. FOLK UNDER THE CLOCK TOUR FOR TWO – Arrive on Friday and have dinner at a local restaurant downtown, relax at the guesthouse listening to your choices from the music library or stroll through the downtown to find some live performances. Visit the local Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning to find some local fare, and in the afternoon visit Moondance Records for a great music store experience. The Folk concert is at Market Hall, 8pm. It's the last concert this season, on Saturday, 23 April, and it’s a Double Bill, with David Francey (Canada) and Jez Lowe (U.K.). CREAM & CHEDDAR TOUR FOR TWO – Tours to the factory stores of two of the finest dairy operations in the Kawartha Lakes Region -- Kawartha Dairy, Bobcaygeon and Empire Cheese Factory, Campbellford. This tour includes visits to the best shopping the area has to offer, a delight for those with exquisite taste in food, art, clothing and home and garden wares. Check in to King Bethune House and enjoy the evening exploring the cafes, pubs and nightlife of downtown Peterborough. In the morning after breakfast take a tour through the countryside of the Kawartha Lakes, stopping in Lakefield to pick up a picnic lunch from In A Nuttshell, Lakefield's Gourmet Foodstore and Catering Service. First stop is Curve Lake’s Whetung Ojibway Art Gallery and then on to Bobcaygeon’s Kawartha Dairy. Return via Burleigh Falls and Youngs Point to visit the heritage store, Lockside Trading Company. Return to ‘home’ to relax in the garden hammock, stroll for dinner at one of our local chef-owned restaurants, and hold hands by the bonfire in the garden. The next morning meander south to Bailieboro and browse through Wake Robin Garden Gallery, continuing through the hills of Northumberland to Campbellford to Empire Cheese & Butter Factory Outlet Store. SCENIC RIVER ROAD TOUR FOR TWO– Bicycle, jog or drive the scenic River Road from Peterborough to Lakefield. From downtown cross the river on the Trans Canada Trail, on the train-trestle bridge and take the Rotary Trail along the river to Trent University and continue another twelve kilometers to Lakefield. Great views of Trent campus on the river, early morning mists off the river, birds and country quiet. The trail and the road are tranquil and inspiring. And the reward at the end of the road is ice cream across from the 'stop' sign, the village of Lakefield where you can shop for antiques, watch the locks, and a fabulous picinic gourmet picnic lunch from In A Nuttshell, Lakefield's Gourmet Foodstore and Catering Service. Take a dip at the public beach in the campground across the bridge (turn right at the light). Mid-point between the University and Lakefield, stop in to The Greenhouse on the River for a walkabout in the greenhouse and enjoy a complimentary glass of water or lemonade. They have spectacular pots and urns, and the greenhouse in the spring is a special treat. There are off road and off trail options for cyclists and walkers from the University back to the city along the canal. Bicycles are available for rent from Wild Rock Outfitters in Peterborough. EMMA'S CREATIVE CRAFTS TOUR FOR TWO (or 3 or 4 children) – Two hours in King Bethune Guest House with young people's best friend, Emma, making pens, brooches, bracelets, paintings and/or sculptures using a variety of mediums. For example, work with paper, paint, sculpy, airdry clay, beads and foods. For children 2 to 12 years. Emma is currently enrolled at Fleming College in the Educational Assistant Program. Emma has taught "Artistic Time" for 5 years at the Uxbridge Montessori Summer Day Camp and has a special talent for children with disabilities. Adult supervision required for younger children. Tour includes workspace, craft materials, a snack, and two nights accommodations and breakfasts both mornings. Tour dates are 1 May to Labour Day Friday, except 1st week in July.
