Our university students quickly figured out this is the place to eat when you want some comfort food, home-made, that won't burn a hole in the pocket. Main dishes are served with rice and peas and salad. The peas and rice are deliciously flavoured with coconut. Choices include jerks, curries (including goat), oxtail and ackee. Rotis are a specialty. Soups, samosa and more. Halal cooking. Try the home made ice cream or fresh fruit smoothies and the tropical drinks. Only a few tables. Karma's has been featured on the Food Network and HGTV Restaurant Makeover series in 2007. It is one of two restaurants in Peterborough listed in "Where to Eat in Canada in 2007.

At Karma's the food is about freshness. And it is skillfully arranged and presented, healthy and very tasty. The menu is Himalayan, Tibetan and Thai, a blend of flavours that is both rich and well layered, suitable for any palate. There are fish, meat and vegetarian choices. Karma's platter exemplifies the taste sensations available and is a favourite for lunch or for an appetizer for dinner. It has 2 spring rolls, 2 salad rolls, 1 rice patty, 1 noodle patty, 2 chicken satay and 2 Tibetan momos.

Natas is the name of a custard tart. Great cakes and pastries, many in the Portugese style! Cakes and pastries are a traditional treat served with coffee throughout Europe. Cushy couches as well as traditional cafe tables at which to linger over a coffee or sandwich. With each froth beautifully decorated, you'll never look at coffee the same way again.

A modern steak house that prides itself in using local ingredients. Nothing pre-made (they make everything fom scratch)using only fresh ingredients. Their menu is steak, with a seafood option, and they have ribs and chicken. There are lots of specials -- seasonal foods, game meats.

The owner/chef Brad Watt is from the East Coast. Frequent visits to Peterborough became a love affair with the City. He and his wife, Kate, moved here in 2005. They opened Rare in 2007. Kate co-manages the restaurant with Graham Greenleaf.

The restaurant is tastefully decorated, comfortable and comforting, modern. The atmosphere is casual and classy. The meals are delectable.

The Original Greek is a family business started in 1976 by George and Anna Anagnostou's parents. Beginning in the 1980's, George and Anna became restauranteurs, first in Whitby, then Toronto, and finally 'back home' in Peterborough, ironically on the site of the original family restaurant.

Today, Anna's cooking style includes many slow cooked recipes and features the creative use of wine and ouzo as ingredients for flavouring. Although many recipes and ingredients are traditional, there is always something unexpected. The food can be described as Greek fine dining with a Mediterranean twist.

George is trained as a sommelier and has one of the best stocked wine cellars in Peterborough. George will help you choose a wine suited to any menu choice.
